Incleborough Hill

Standing at 103 metres above sea level, this modest Norfolk summit claims the title of the county's highest point - though don't expect dramatic mountain vistas. The walk up through Incleborough Wood is pleasant enough, winding through mixed woodland that feels properly ancient in places. Once you reach the top, marked by a simple trig point, the views are decent rather than spectacular. You'll catch glimpses of the North Norfolk coast between the trees, but the forest canopy does limit the panorama somewhat. Still, it's a proper achievement to bag Norfolk's highest spot, and the kids will enjoy the novelty of it. The paths can get muddy after rain, so decent walking boots are wise. Allow an hour for the round trip from the car park near West Runton. Families staying at any of the nearby holiday parks around Cromer will find this makes a nice morning excursion. West Runton Camping & Caravanning Club is practically on the doorstep, while Beeston Regis Holiday Park and the others are all within easy striking distance. It's free to access and open all year, though autumn brings lovely colours to the woodland. Not the most thrilling peak you'll ever climb, but there's something satisfying about standing on Norfolk's roof.
