Beaminster Recreation Ground

The Recreation Ground sits on the edge of Beaminster, a proper working green space that locals actually use rather than somewhere you'd queue up to visit. It's grassland with mature trees, paths winding through, and enough room to let kids run about without losing them round a corner. Dog walkers come here regularly, families pop over for an afternoon, and if you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Dorset Forest Garden or Walnut Farm are closest at just over 2 miles away - it's an easy walk into town.

What you get is straightforward: open space, some shade from decent-sized oaks and chestnuts, and sightlines across to the Dorset hills. There's no visitor centre or interpretation boards, no admission fee as far as I can tell, and it won't take more than an hour to explore properly. The paths are decent enough underfoot, though after heavy rain it gets a bit muddy round the lower sections.

It works best as a leg-stretch if you're staying in the area rather than a reason to drive specifically to Beaminster. That said, if you're camping or glamping within a few miles - Hidden Valley and Cider Farm Orchard are nearby - you'll find yourself back here more than once. The town itself has decent cafes and a decent butcher, so you can make a proper half-day of it. Kids under eight will get bored once they've run the perimeter, but walkers and anyone wanting to decompress will find it does the job quietly and well.
