Horn Park

The paths through Horn Park wind through proper West Bay country, with Bridport just a short drive away. This is a working nature reserve that doesn't shout about itself - no visitor centre, no gift shop, just good woodland and open grassland where you can actually breathe. You'll find yourself walking through mixed habitat, the sort of place where locals know the bird calls better than the official names.

It's ideal if you're camping nearby at Dorset Forest Garden Glamping or Walnut Farm and want a half-day exploration without trekking to somewhere more famous. Families with decent walkers will get a solid hour or two out of it; younger kids might find it a bit quiet after thirty minutes unless they're into spotting things. The terrain is manageable, though it can get muddy after rain, which is half the charm really.

What makes it work is that you're not fighting crowds. This is where Dorset locals bring their dogs and binoculars, not where tour coaches pull up. The grassland sections offer decent views across the surrounding countryside, and if you time it right for early morning, the wildlife activity is worth the early start. If you need facilities and interpretation, look elsewhere. Summer's your best bet for longer daylight and drier ground.
