Bean Close Coppice

A proper woodland walk through Devon's quieter side, Bean Close Coppice sits a few miles inland from Bridport and feels worlds away from the coastal crowds. The coppice is small but dense - mixed woodland with that earthy, damp smell you only get when the canopy's thick enough to keep the undergrowth moist. There are paths threading through, though nothing signposted, so you'll want a map or local knowledge to make the most of it.

It's the sort of place that appeals to walkers after something low-key rather than showy. Families with young kids might find an hour here enough before restlessness sets in - there's not a lot of dramatic views or features, just trees and quietness. Birdwatchers and anyone keen on woodland ecology will get more from it. Spring's probably the best time, when the whole place wakes up.

From Beer Head Holiday Park, you're maybe twenty minutes away, which makes it a decent half-day option if you're after a break from the caravan but don't want a full-on expedition. Combine it with a proper walk along the coast near Bridport itself, or use it as a breathing space between park activities.

Free to access - it's local woodland, not a managed attraction, so there's no visitor centre or facilities. Just turn up, find a way in, and enjoy the trees. Bit rough around the edges, but that's rather the point.
