Beccamoor Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination attraction, Beccamoor Wood sits just outside Leeds and gives you the kind of forest ramble you'd normally have to drive an hour for. The paths wind through mixed woodland - nothing dramatic, but solid Yorkshire greenery that feels removed from the city despite being only a few miles away.

It's the sort of place walkers appreciate more than casual visitors. Bring decent boots if there's been rain; the ground gets boggy. You're looking at anywhere from 45 minutes to two hours depending on which routes you take and how often you stop to work out where you actually are. The wood itself is unremarkable in the best possible way - no view platform, no visitor centre, just trees and quiet.

Families with young kids might find it a bit dull after an hour; there's not much here beyond walking. But if you've got teenagers or you're genuinely keen on woodland, it's worth knowing about. Free to access, obviously. Spring's probably best when things are actually growing, though honestly any season works if you dress for it.

If you're staying at Haighfield Holiday Park or Moor Lodge Caravan Park nearby, this is a decent morning out before heading elsewhere. Pair it with something more substantial in Leeds proper rather than making it your day's centrepiece.
