The former home of Lloyd George sits quietly on the Llyn Peninsula, a short drive from Pwllheli, transformed into a nature reserve that feels more like wandering through someone's private woodland than a managed attraction. The reserve encompasses the grounds where Wales' most famous Prime Minister once lived, and you'll find yourself walking through mature trees, past old stone walls, and across open meadow with views toward the coast. It's the sort of place where you notice things - a particular type of lichen on the oak trees, the way light filters through the canopy, the hush that comes from being away from the road.

This is genuinely one for slow walkers and nature types rather than those after a structured experience. There's no visitor centre, no café, no interpretation boards telling you what you're looking at. You're essentially free to explore the woodland and grounds at your own pace, which some people find liberating and others find a bit lonely. Families with young children might manage half an hour before restlessness sets in, but serious naturalists could easily spend two hours here.

If you're based at one of the caravan parks near Pwllheli - Hafan y Môr is closest at under three miles - this makes a decent half-morning outing, particularly if the weather's decent. Combine it with a walk to Black Rock Sands and you've got a solid day on the peninsula. Go early if possible; the place has real charm when it's quiet, and you're more likely to spot wildlife without the distraction of other visitors.
