Gwinllan Cefn-rhosgyll

The forest sits quietly inland from Pwllheli, a proper slice of North Wales woodland that doesn't demand much from you but rewards a bit of wandering. Gwinllan Cefn-rhosgyll is the sort of place where you can disappear into the trees for an hour or two without needing a guidebook or a ticket office.

It's conifer woodland, dense and green, with paths that wind through at a gentle pace. You'll find yourself among tall pines and the forest floor soft underfoot - good for a stroll with the dog, decent for families who fancy a bit of fresh air without the crowds that follow the more famous spots. The shade is welcome on a warm day, and there's a real sense of being away from things, even though Pwllheli and the coast are close by.

Walkers get the most from this one. It's not a destination that requires hours of your time, but it slots in nicely alongside a park holiday in the area. If you're based at Hafan y Môr or one of the other caravan parks nearby, this makes an easy leg-stretch that doesn't feel rushed. Bring proper shoes - the paths can be boggy after rain, and there's nothing worse than squelching boots.

Timing-wise, allow 45 minutes to an hour. Go early in the day if you want the place to yourself, which you probably will. No admission charge, no facilities - just trees, quiet, and enough space to breathe.
