Beddrod Siambr Capel Garmon

The walk to Beddrod Siambr Capel Garmon takes you up into proper hill country, away from the main roads around Betws-y-Coed. What you're after is a neolithic burial chamber - a Stone Age tomb that's been sitting here for something like 5,000 years. It's small, built from stacked slate slabs with a capstone on top, the sort of thing that makes you wonder who hauled those rocks up here and why they bothered.

The site itself is unfenced and free to visit. Allow an hour for the walk if you're not particularly fit - it's steep in places and the paths can be boggy depending on weather. Once you're there, you'll spend maybe ten minutes actually looking at the stones, so this is really a walk that happens to have archaeology at the end of it rather than the main attraction. Families with confident walkers will manage fine; anyone after a quick photo opportunity will find it tiring for what amounts to a pile of rocks.

If you're staying at Snowdonia Glamping Holidays or Porth Eryri Glamping and fancy mixing some history into your holiday, this works as a half-day outing. The views across Snowdonia on the way up are better than the site itself, honestly. Time it for morning if you can - mist rolls in from afternoon onwards and spoils the walk entirely. Worth doing if you're already in Betws-y-Coed and keen on stone circles, but don't make a special trip just for this.
