Berry Beeches

Standing at 170 metres, this isn't exactly mountain climbing material, but Berry Beeches delivers a proper sense of elevation across the New Forest's eastern edge. The beech trees give this modest peak its name and provide decent shade on summer days - though you'll want to visit in autumn when the canopy turns spectacular shades of copper and gold.

Families with older children will find the walk manageable, though toddlers might struggle with the steeper sections through the woodland. The views from the top stretch across Christchurch and towards the Solent on clear days. It's nothing spectacular, but satisfying enough after the climb.

Walkers often combine Berry Beeches with longer routes through the forest, making it a good warm-up rather than a destination in itself. Allow about an hour for a leisurely round trip from the nearest car park. Early morning visits tend to be quieter, before the weekend crowds arrive.

Camping at nearby spots like Holmsley Campsite or Setthorns Campsite puts you within easy reach of this and other New Forest peaks. The location works well as part of a broader exploration of the area rather than a special journey on its own - decent exercise with a view, but hardly earth-shattering.
