Bersted Brooks

Bersted Brooks is a modest waterway that cuts through the flat Sussex landscape just outside Bognor Regis, offering a quiet retreat from the seaside crowds. It's not dramatic - there are no waterfalls or sudden drops - but that's rather the point. The brooks wind through boggy ground and reed beds, attracting birdwatchers and anyone after a proper walk without the hiking boots requirement.

The appeal here is entirely about pace. You can stroll the banks at your own speed, spot the occasional heron, and feel genuinely away from things despite being minutes from town. It works well for families with younger kids who'll chase dragonflies for hours, and for older walkers who want something flat and undemanding. History buffs won't find much - this is nature rather than heritage - but it's the kind of place that grows on you after half an hour.
