Betchworth Castle

You get decent views across the valley from the site, and the walk to reach it from Tadworth is pleasant enough, skirting the edge of Surrey Hills National Landscape. The whole experience takes maybe thirty to forty minutes if you're not rushing. It's the sort of place that works well as a pitstop during a longer walk rather than a standalone destination - useful if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Betchworth Fort Park or Surrey Hills Park and want to stretch your legs with purpose.

History enthusiasts will find the Norman period interesting, but families with young children might find it underwhelming - there's no visitor centre, no interactive elements, just ruins and a plaque or two. The real draw is the countryside setting and how it connects to the broader walking routes through the Surrey Hills. If you're camping locally and want something educational without much effort, it's worth a look. Otherwise, it's a bit of a detour for what amounts to a partial stone structure in a field.
