About Bishop Hill

The walk up Bishop Hill from Kinross takes about forty minutes and rewards you with proper views across the Lomond Hills and Loch Leven. It's not a slog - the path is well-trodden and the gradient reasonable, though your calves will know you've done something by the top.

What you're actually climbing is a modest Fife peak at 343 metres, which sounds less impressive than it is. From the summit you can see across to the Ochils, and on a clear day the vista stretches far enough to make the walk feel worthwhile. The top's a bit exposed and windswept, so pack a layer even if it's warm down in Kinross.

It suits walkers more than anyone else, really. Families with young kids might find it a touch steep on the way down, and it's the sort of place where you'll bump into other hikers rather than crowds. Allow an hour up, half an hour down, plus time to potter about at the summit.

If you're staying at Wild Goose Glamping or one of the other parks nearby, this makes an excellent morning out before heading to Loch Leven for the afternoon. The town of Kinross sits right at the foot, so you can grab coffee before or after. It's not dramatic or famous, but it does what it says - a proper hill walk with decent views and none of the tourist machinery that comes with the bigger peaks.
