Boulston Church (remains of)

All that's left now are scattered stones and the ghost of a foundation, but there's something rather moving about these modest church remains tucked away in the Pembrokeshire countryside. You'll find them just outside Haverfordwest, easy to miss if you're not looking carefully.

The ruins don't amount to much - fragments of walls, chunks of masonry, and the outline where the nave once stood. History buffs might appreciate the medieval origins, though there's precious little interpretation to help piece together the story. It's free to wander around (there's no fence or formal entrance), and you'll have it to yourself most days.

Truth be told, it's more of a brief stop than a destination. Ten minutes will do you, unless you're particularly keen on archaeology or fancy a quiet moment away from the crowds. Families with restless children should probably give it a miss - there's not much to engage younger minds here.

If you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Bluestone Resort or Grass Roots Caravan Park, it makes a decent excuse for a short walk through the lanes. The surrounding countryside is lovely enough, and it's the sort of spot that feels properly Welsh - windswept, peaceful, and touched by centuries of weather. Just don't expect grand ruins or dramatic views.
