Braid Hill

The walk up Braid Hill rewards you with views across the Kintyre peninsula that stretch all the way to the islands on a clear day. It's a proper hill walk rather than a stroll - you're looking at a couple of hours up and down, with a decent incline that'll get your legs working. The summit isn't exactly dramatic, but the 360-degree perspective from up there makes the effort worthwhile, especially if you've timed it right and the weather's cooperating.

Tarbert sits at the foot of this walk, so it's an easy morning or afternoon activity if you're staying in the area. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble on the way up. History buffs won't find much on the peak itself - this is about the landscape and the walk, not monuments or ruins.

If you're based at Killegruer or Carradale Bay Holiday Park, both just under five miles away, Braid Hill slots neatly into a wider exploration of Kintyre. Pair it with a wander around Tarbert itself and you've got a solid half-day sorted. The Muasdale site is slightly further but still very doable as a day trip. Go early if you can - the carpark near Tarbert fills up during summer weekends, and you'll want calm conditions to make the most of those views. Rain turns the path into a muddy slog, so save this one for decent weather.
