Breach Wood

Walk into Breach Wood near Warwick and you're immediately surrounded by proper woodland - the kind that makes you forget you're within spitting distance of a market town. It's a straightforward forest experience: paths winding through mature trees, decent undergrowth, and the sort of quiet that city dwellers pay good money to escape. There's nothing fancy here, which is precisely why it works.

Walkers will get the most from it. Bring proper boots if it's been wet, because the ground can get boggy in patches. You're looking at anything from a gentle half-hour stroll to a longer two-hour loop depending on which way you take it - there's flexibility in how you navigate the place. Families with young kids will manage fine on the main routes, though the paths aren't especially wide or well-manicured. Serious hikers might find it a touch tame, but it's a solid local walk when you're based nearby.

Admission appears to be free, which is a bonus. Best visited autumn through spring when the canopy thins and you can actually see what's around you. Summer gets dense and a bit claustrophobic.

If you're staying at Mousley House Farm just down the road, Breach Wood makes an easy morning walk before heading into Warwick proper for the castle or shops. Knight's Village and the racecourse campsite are slightly further out, but still within reasonable driving distance if you want to break up a longer stay with some woodland time.
