Bridlington Sea Front

The seafront at Bridlington stretches for miles along the Yorkshire coast, and it's the sort of place that rewards a proper wander rather than a quick snap for Instagram. The promenade itself is well maintained - decent width, plenty of benches if your legs need a rest, and the sort of Victorian charm that comes from a seaside town that's been around the block. You get the full spectrum: old-fashioned amusement arcades, fish and chip shops that actually know what they're doing, and stretches of genuine beach where you can still find decent sand rather than shingle.

Walkers will find hours of entertainment just following the front north or south. The harbour area has character - fishing boats, proper working boats, not just pretty postcards. On a clear day the views aren't spectacular in the dramatic sense, but they're honest. Families with younger kids will get the most out of the traditional attractions: the rides, the beach itself, maybe an ice cream that costs more than it should. Teenagers might find it a bit dated, though the seafront bars and cafes have smartened things up in recent years.

It's free to wander, naturally, though you'll spend money if you fancy the arcades or food. Allow three or four hours minimum if you're actually exploring rather than just passing through.
