Brockwood Hill

The walk up Brockwood Hill rewards you with proper views across the Cheshire plains - nothing dramatic, but on a clear day you can see well beyond Crewe and into the surrounding countryside. It's a modest peak by any standard, the sort of place locals know about rather than tourists, which is partly why it's worth the detour.

The climb itself takes twenty minutes or so depending on fitness. It's not steep enough to be a real slog, but steep enough to feel like you've earned the summit. The views work best in afternoon light when the industrial bits of Crewe fade into the distance and you're left looking at farmland and the rolling edges of Cheshire.

Families with younger kids might lose patience after the initial climb - there's not loads to do at the top beyond the view and a bit of a wander about. Older walkers and anyone keen on local geography will get more from it. The sort of place you'd combine with a longer ramble across the Cheshire countryside rather than visit solo.

If you're staying at any of the nearby parks - Tipsy Tree Glamping is closest at just over two miles away, or the larger sites around Sandbach like Yellowstone or Castle Camping - this makes an easy morning outing. Costs nothing, takes a couple of hours including a slow descent and a breather at the top. Go on a weekday if you want the place to yourself.
