Bronington Church

A modest brick church sitting quietly on the edge of Bronington, just a short drive south of Whitchurch. St James the Great is the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it - which is precisely why it's worth the detour if you're camping at Abbey Green Farm or any of the other parks scattered around this corner of Cheshire.

The church itself dates back to medieval times, though what you see now is largely Victorian restoration. Inside, the interior is straightforward and uncluttered - none of the architectural showiness you get at grander churches. There's a real sense of continuity here, the kind of space where locals have quietly worshipped for centuries without fuss or drama.

It's genuinely free to visit and open most daylight hours, though ringing ahead makes sense if you want to be certain. Allow twenty minutes, half an hour if you're the type to read every brass plaque. The churchyard itself is worth a wander - proper old gravestones, peaceful spot.

Not a destination in its own right, obviously. But if you're basing yourself at one of the caravan parks within five miles and fancy a gentle stroll to somewhere with real local character, this delivers. It pairs well with exploring the surrounding countryside on foot. Families with older children who appreciate that sort of thing will get more from it than toddlers will. The walk from Fernwood or Bradley Hall would be perfectly pleasant on a decent afternoon.
