Brookfield Park

You're looking at one of Sussex's quieter nature reserves, tucked just outside Littlehampton. Brookfield Park is the sort of place where you'll actually hear birdsong instead of your own breathing - which is saying something for the South East. The reserve combines woodland and open grassland, making it decent for spotting everything from common woodland birds to the occasional buzzard if you're lucky with timing.

It's genuinely best suited to walkers and serious birdwatchers rather than families looking for a quick half-hour outing. Give yourself at least two hours to do it justice, longer if you're into photography or identifying species. The paths are manageable but not manicured - this is proper nature reserve stuff, not a park with benches every fifty metres.

If you're camped at South Downs Caravan Park just up the road, or staying at one of the other sites around Littlehampton, Brookfield makes a solid morning walk without eating up your whole day. The proximity to town means you're not driving far, which is handy. Admission details are thin on the ground online, so ring ahead or check when you arrive - most Sussex reserves are free, but it's worth confirming.

Honestly, this works best as part of a broader South Downs exploration rather than a destination in itself. Combine it with the Arun Valley walks or head into Littlehampton proper for lunch afterwards. It's quiet, it's local, and it does what it says on the tin.
