Brush Hill

The walk up to Brush Hill takes about twenty minutes from the car park, and on a clear day the views across the Aylesbury Vale are genuinely worth the effort. You're standing at 260 metres, which doesn't sound like much until you realise how flat the surrounding landscape is - the whole county seems to stretch out below you. On good visibility days you can see well beyond Aylesbury itself, picking out church spires and distant woodlands that give you a real sense of the area's scale.

It's not a dramatic peak or anything theatrical. The summit itself is just a grassy clearing with a few benches, the sort of place where locals bring dogs and families pause for sandwiches. But that's exactly the appeal. No crowds, no visitor centre, no admission fee - just a proper countryside walk that rewards you with a decent panorama. Walkers will appreciate the gentle gradients and clear paths; it's accessible without being trivial.

Timing-wise, allow an hour return if you're not rushing. The ground can be muddy after rain, so decent boots matter. Early morning gives you the clearest air, while late afternoon light makes the views quite photogenic.

If you're camping at one of the local sites - Orchard View Farm or Home Farm are nearest - Brush Hill makes a straightforward half-day outing. It sits nicely between a proper walk and a brief stroll, which counts for something when you're mixing activities across a week away. Nothing fancy, but honest value.
