Bryn Tanni - shoot

Bryn Tanni is a modest nature reserve tucked into the Gwynedd landscape near Pwllheli, where the main draw is a shooting range - yes, really. If you're after target practice or clay pigeon shooting, this is where locals come to do it. The site itself sits within proper countryside, so there's at least the bonus of being outdoors whilst you're firing away.

Honestly, this isn't somewhere you'd plan a day trip around unless shooting is your thing. But if you're already staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts, Llwyn Ffynnon, or Gimblet Rock are all within a couple of miles - and you fancy an afternoon activity that's a bit different from the usual seaside fare, it's convenient enough. Families with teenagers who shoot will find it worthwhile; young children will get bored fast.

The walk around the reserve itself is pleasant enough if you're the outdoor type, and the location means you're close to Pwllheli's beaches and the broader Llyn Peninsula. You'd probably want to book ahead if you're planning to shoot - this isn't a drop-in sort of place. Allow a couple of hours if you're actually doing the activity, less if you're just poking about the grounds.

Worth the detour? Only if shooting is on your agenda. As a general nature spot, there are better reserves nearby with more obvious appeal.
