Bryn-Wgan Wood

Ancient oak and beech trees tower overhead as you follow the winding paths through this woodland remnant near Llandeilo. Bryn-Wgan Wood feels properly wild compared to some of the more manicured forests in Carmarthenshire - fallen logs create natural sculptures while moss creeps up bark in velvet patches.

Dog walkers absolutely love this place, and you'll understand why within minutes of arrival. The paths are well-defined enough for children but retain that slightly untamed feel that makes every turn feel like an adventure. Spring brings carpets of bluebells that rival anything you'll find in more famous woods, while autumn sees the canopy explode in russets and golds.

Expect to spend about an hour here for a proper wander, though you could easily stretch it to two if you're the type to stop and examine every interesting fungus or bird call. The terrain is fairly gentle throughout, making it accessible for most fitness levels without being boring for keen walkers.

Staying at one of the glamping sites like Erwain Escapes or Ravenscroft Retreats puts you within easy striking distance for an early morning walk when the wood is at its most atmospheric. It pairs well with a trip into Llandeilo for lunch - the town's just a short drive away and has some cracking independent cafes to warm up in afterwards.
