Brynhenllys Fishery

The water at Brynhenllys is properly still when you arrive early, and that's when you want to be here if you're serious about catching something. It's a working fishery near Llangadog in Carmarthenshire, set up for anglers rather than casual gawpers - bring your rod, know what you're doing, and you'll have a decent day. The lake itself is well-stocked, and the woodland setting takes the edge off what could otherwise be a fairly exposed spot. You're looking at anything from a couple of hours if you just want to test the water to a full day if you're genuinely after trout or carp.

This isn't the place for kids who want to dabble for tadpoles or take Instagram shots from the bank. Anglers and serious fishers get the most from it - you'll need a permit and your own kit, and the level of knowledge expected here is real. Drifters and day-trippers will find it a bit underwhelming honestly. If you're camping at either Brecon Beacons or Cosmos Camping nearby, and you fish, it's worth the short drive. Llangadog itself is a proper little market town, so you can break up a fishing trip with a walk or a pub lunch.

Check the website beforehand for current rates and any seasonal closures - opening hours and access can be variable depending on water conditions and fishing matches. Early mornings tend to be quieter, and the light's better anyway.
