This is genuinely one of those local spots that tourists miss entirely, which is their loss. You're looking at open grassland, riverside walks, and if you time it right, some decent birdwatching. The pitches themselves are sports fields, but the real draw is the reserve around them - it's peaceful in a way that feels almost accidental, given how close you are to the town centre.

It's ideal for walkers who want a gentle riverside stroll rather than anything taxing. Families with younger kids will find it pleasant enough for an hour or so, though there's not masses to keep them occupied beyond splashing about and spotting ducks. The setting works particularly well if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks - Go Glamping at Loch Ness is barely a couple of miles away, as is Ardtower Caravan Park, so it's worth adding to a morning's activities without going out of your way.

Access appears to be free, and you can turn up whenever. The best time is genuinely early morning or late afternoon when the light hits the water properly and there are fewer people about. It's not a major attraction - don't expect facilities or formal paths - but as a quiet break between exploring Inverness itself and heading further into the Highlands, it does the job well. Worth twenty minutes if you're in the area, though I wouldn't drive specifically for it.
