Burridge Wood

The woodland around Burridge Wood, just outside Tiverton, is proper walking territory. Dense trees, good clearings, and enough of a path network to keep you entertained for an afternoon without feeling like you're on some tourist treadmill.

What you get here is straightforward forest walking. The canopy's thick enough to offer shelter when Devon decides to be Devon about the weather, and there are decent spots to sit and watch the woodland life if you've got the patience for it. It's not dramatic or Instagram-worthy in the way some woodland is - no gorges, no rare plants being pointed out by rangers. Just solid, accessible forest.

Families with children who don't mind a bit of mud do well here. Kids get to run about without much risk, and there's enough variety in the paths to stop them asking "are we there yet" too early. If you're a serious walker, it's a useful leg-stretcher between bigger hikes rather than a destination itself.

Timing-wise, allow a couple of hours if you're meandering. The access appears free - nothing's been gated off - which is worth knowing. Come late morning to avoid the dampness that clings to Devon woodland early on.

If you're based at Nirvana Glamping nearby, this works as a cracking morning walk before you head back for lunch. It's low-pressure, close enough not to eat petrol money, and does the job without fuss.
