Buryhill Plantation

The woodland around Buryhill Plantation offers proper walking territory once you're in amongst the trees near Tiverton. It's a working forest rather than some manicured country estate - you'll find yourself on forestry tracks and footpaths that wind through mixed woodland, the kind of place where you actually feel like you've gone somewhere rather than just looping round a car park for twenty minutes.

Walkers will get the most from it. The terrain is manageable but not flat, and the canopy does its job when the weather turns rough. There's something satisfying about the scale of it - you can rack up decent mileage without feeling like you're trudging through the same section twice. Bring proper boots; it can get muddy and the ground is uneven enough to twist an ankle if you're not paying attention.

If you're based at Nirvana Glamping five or so miles away, this works as a solid half-day outing. Families with older kids will manage fine, but younger ones might lose interest - it's forest, basically, not a play park. The nearest facilities are back in Tiverton itself, so pack water and a snack before you head in.

The access and exact opening times aren't advertised anywhere obvious, so your best bet is checking with Tiverton's visitor information or local walking guides before you go. Free access as far as I can tell, but do respect any forestry work you encounter.
