Bushy Knap

Bushy Knap is a proper woodland walk near Honiton - the sort of place that feels like your own discovery even though plenty of locals use it regularly. You're walking through dense Devon forest, the kind where light filters through in patches and the ground stays damp even after dry spells. The trees are thick enough that you lose sight of the surrounding countryside almost immediately, which is rather the appeal.

It's ideal for walkers wanting something low-key rather than a major summit push. The paths are well-trodden but not manicured, and there's enough tree cover to make it pleasant even when the weather turns grey. Families with primary-school-aged kids will find it manageable, though it's not a destination that'll keep them entertained for more than an hour or so - it's the sort of woodland where you walk, breathe a bit of fresh air, and move on.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of, so bring what you need and expect no facilities. As for timing, spring's decent for bluebells if you hit it right, but autumn when the canopy thins slightly is probably best. Winter can be muddy.
