Carn Góch

The walk up Carn Góch rewards you with genuine Pembrokeshire views - rolling moorland stretching toward the coast, with the Preseli Hills rolling away in the distance. It's a proper hill walk rather than a casual stroll, but nothing that demands serious kit or experience. Allow a couple of hours return from Ganol, depending on your pace and how many times you stop to catch your breath on the way up.

This is one for walkers who want a bit of effort without the scramble. The peak itself isn't showy - no dramatic rocky summit - but the landscape around it tells you why the area mattered historically. On a clear day the views stretch far enough to remind you why Pembrokeshire coastline draws people here in the first place. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the moorland dull without a proper destination to work toward.

Access is straightforward from Ganol, and the campsite situation nearby - Rhosson Ganol sits just half a mile away - makes this a sensible addition to a park-based holiday rather than a special trip on its own. Caerfai Bay and Lleithyr Farm are also close enough if you're based in the area. Go when the weather's decent; on a grey Welsh day the moorland can feel a bit bleak, and the views that make the walk worthwhile disappear entirely. Spring and early autumn work best.
