Carnanmore

The walk up Carnanmore is straightforward enough, and the reward is a proper panorama of the Causeway Coast that'll stick with you long after. From the summit, you're looking across to Rathlin Island on a clear day, with the Antrim plateau rolling away inland. It's not a mammoth hike - most people manage it in under two hours up and down - but don't let that fool you into thinking it's a doddle. The ground gets boggy in patches, and if the wind's up (which it often is along this coast), you'll feel it.

Ballycastle sits just below, which is handy for grabbing something to eat after. The town's got decent pubs and a few cafes, nothing fancy but proper grub. Allow three hours if you're taking it steady and stopping to take photos. The best window is late spring through early autumn, though locals reckon June gives you the longest light and the least chance of cloud sitting on the top.

Families with older kids will find this worthwhile - it's the kind of walk that feels like an achievement without being punishing. Younger ones might struggle on the boggy bits. If you're staying at Watertop Farm, just down the road, this makes a cracking half-day addition to your itinerary. The views justify the effort, and it's far less crowded than the Giant's Causeway, which is only a few miles away. Proper wild up there, even on busy weekends.
