Carnedd Llechwedd-llyfn

A 889-metre peak that rewards scramblers and fell walkers with proper views across the Snowdonia massif. Carnedd Llechwedd-llyfn sits on the high moorland between Betws-y-Coed and Capel Curig, accessible via well-trodden mountain paths that take between two to three hours for a round trip depending on your approach.

The summit itself isn't dramatic - you won't find dramatic rock formations or technical scrambling here. What you get instead is solitude and sight lines that stretch across the Glyderau peaks to the west and down into the forested valleys below. The walk builds gradually, crossing moorland where the ground squelches after rain and bracken crowds the path in summer.

This is properly a walker's peak rather than a casual stroll. You'll need decent boots and map-reading skills or a GPS - the plateau can be confusing in mist, which rolls in without warning even on apparently clear days. The exposure is minimal once you're on the mountain, so families with hill experience and teenagers will manage fine. Young children will find it tedious.

Start early from the villages around Betws-y-Coed and you'll likely have the summit to yourself. It's a cracking spot to spend twenty minutes with a flask before heading down.
