Carraig an Ròin

The beach at Carraig an Ròin sits on the Clyde coast near Helensburgh, and it's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. Rocky foreshore meets proper pebbly stretches, with views across the water that shift dramatically depending on the light. On a clear day you can see right across the Firth of Clyde - genuinely impressive when the weather plays ball.

It's best as a walker's stop rather than a day-long lounging spot. You'll get maybe an hour out of proper exploration - scrambling over rocks, checking rock pools if the tide's right, watching for seals (they do appear, though not guaranteed). Families with younger kids will find it manageable but not dramatic enough to hold attention for hours. Teenagers might find it boring after twenty minutes unless they're into photography or sketching.

Parking is limited and informal - street parking near the coastal path. There's no cafe, no facilities, so bring what you need. Tides matter here, so check them before you go. The pebbles are rough on feet, so proper shoes are non-negotiable.

If you're based at Glenfinart Caravan Park or Hunters Quay Holiday Village, it's worth the short drive as part of a broader Clyde coast loop rather than a destination in itself. Combine it with a walk towards Roseneath or a visit to Helensburgh proper for something more substantial. The light here is lovely in late afternoon - worth timing your visit for that if you can.
