Chapel Plantation

The woodland at Chapel Plantation spreads across a decent chunk of Derbyshire countryside between Belper and the surrounding villages. It's the sort of place where you can properly stretch your legs without needing a full day's commitment - walk in, get some air, walk out. The trees are well-established, the paths are reasonably clear, and it feels genuinely quiet, which is rare this close to a built-up area.

If you're camped at either Poplars Farm or Carsington Fields - both cracking sites within five miles - this is worth a morning or afternoon wander. The proximity to Belper means it's never going to feel remote, but that's not really the point. It's local woodland, open access, and you can turn back whenever you fancy.

Timing? An hour to ninety minutes gives you a decent explore without overdoing it. Go when the light's decent - early morning or late afternoon will feel considerably nicer than midday. Free to access, assuming there are no recent changes, though always worth checking locally before you visit. Nothing fancy, but that's exactly what it should be.
