Chapel Point

The walk down to Chapel Point catches you off guard. What starts as a coastal path between Mevagissey and Portmellon suddenly opens out onto a proper dramatic stretch of Cornish coastline - all granite cliffs and that peculiar greenish-grey Atlantic light. The chapel itself is a small, whitewashed affair perched on the headland, built originally as a fishing chapel back when men needed all the divine help they could get hauling boats in and out of these waters.

It's a solid two-mile round trip from Mevagissey, which means you're looking at about an hour if you're moving at a sensible pace and stop to actually look at things. The path is well-trodden and mostly flat until the final descent, then it gets a bit steep coming back up - not treacherous, but your calves will know about it. Worth doing on a clear day when the views stretch out properly across to Dodman Point. On a grey day it's moody rather than impressive.

Historically-minded types will appreciate the fishing heritage angle, though there's not a great deal of interpretation on site. Families with younger kids might find the walk manageable going down, but the return leg could be a slog depending on your lot's tolerance for hills. Walkers who know Cornwall will recognize it as a proper textbook coastal scene - nothing wildly unexpected, but exactly the sort of place that makes you remember why you came to this part of the world in the first place.

Both Treveague and Tregarton parks sit within easy distance, making this a natural diversion on a lazy morning stroll from either base.
