Cherry Hinton Library sits on the eastern edge of Cambridge, a proper community hub that punches above its weight for a local branch. It's a functioning library - not a tourist attraction in the traditional sense - but if you're staying at one of the caravan sites nearby (the Cherry Hinton Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is practically on the doorstep), it's worth knowing about.

Inside you'll find the usual stock of books, computers for public use, and a decent children's section. The staff are helpful without being intrusive. It's the sort of place where locals actually spend time rather than just dash in and out. On a rainy afternoon - and there will be rainy afternoons in Cambridgeshire - it's genuinely useful rather than thrilling.

The library opens Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings, which works well if you're campsite-based and need to kill time or grab a book for the evening. Wednesday and Friday run until 5pm, Saturdays close at 2pm. Monday afternoons only (3-6pm) and Thursday mornings (9am-1pm) are your other windows. Admission is free, naturally.

It won't be the highlight of your trip to Cambridge, but it's the sort of practical detail that makes caravan holidays actually work. With Bounds C&CC and the Cambridge Camping and Caravanning Club Site both within a couple of miles, you're well-positioned for this side of town. Better still, you're close enough to Cambridge city centre to visit the proper attractions without being right in the madness.
