Chimney Meadows National Nature Reserve

The Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust manages this 150-hectare reserve just outside Witney, and it's one of those places that rewards patience more than first glances. You're walking through what looks like ordinary meadowland at first - flat, open, unremarkable if you're expecting drama. But that's rather the point. Chimney Meadows is a working example of what traditional English grassland actually looks like when it's properly managed, not sprayed to submission or ploughed under.
