The walk down to Clapham Falls is what makes the trip worthwhile - a proper Yorkshire dale experience that takes you through woodland and past a gentle beck before you reach the water. It's not a dramatic thundering cascade; instead you get a series of cascades tumbling over limestone steps, which is rather lovely if you're honest. The whole thing takes about 45 minutes on foot from Clapham village itself, and it's well-trodden enough that families with older children will manage without complaint.

The real appeal here is the walk rather than the destination. You're ambling through Ingleborough Cave Country without the crowds you'd find at the bigger attractions around Settle. The beck alongside the path keeps things interesting, and there's enough woodland canopy to make an overcast day feel atmospheric rather than dreary. Bring proper walking boots - the path gets boggy after rain, and the limestone underfoot is slippery when wet.

Historically it's unremarkable, so don't come expecting dramatic geology lessons. This is walkers' territory, and it works best when you're using it as part of a broader ramble through the Three Peaks area. It's free, naturally, and you can take as long as you fancy. If you're staying at Orcaber Farm or The Dalesbridge nearby in Settle, this makes an excellent morning outing before heading to bigger-name spots like Ingleborough Cave or the Settle-Carlisle Railway.
