The Clydebank Blitz Memorial marks one of Scotland's darkest hours - March 1941, when over a thousand people died in just two nights of bombing. It's not the flashiest monument you'll find, but that's rather the point.

The memorial itself is thoughtfully done, and the surrounding area helps you visualise the scale of the destruction that rained down on this working-class community. The nearest proper town is Glasgow, just down the road, so you could easily combine this with the city's excellent museums if you want context.
