Coed Cemaes

Dense woodland spreads across these slopes near Llwyngwril, with paths threading through mature trees and the occasional clearing where you can actually see the coast. Coed Cemaes is proper woodland walking territory - the kind of place where you'll hear more birds than people, which is saying something for North Wales.

The forest floor is soft underfoot, mostly, though it gets boggy in patches after rain. There's a real sense of walking through something ancient here, even if you're just doing a gentle loop. If you're staying at Cae Du Campsite or Gwynedd Holiday Home Park nearby, this works well as a morning option before heading to the beaches. Most visitors spend between 45 minutes and two hours depending on which trails they follow.

Families with younger kids might find it a bit samey after half an hour - it's all trees, not dramatic or particularly varied. But walkers who enjoy that meditative quiet-in-the-woods feeling will get something out of it. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so bring what you need. The paths are reasonably maintained but not manicured.

What works best is combining this with a trip down to Llwyngwril itself or using it as a leg-stretcher between other attractions in Gwynedd. It's not a destination you'd plan a day around, but as part of a holiday based at one of the local parks, it's a solid addition to the rotation. Free to access, naturally, and quieter than most of the honey-pot forests further south.
