Coed Tŷ-gwyn

The forest around Coed Tŷ-gwyn is proper woodland - the kind where you can actually hear yourself think. Tucked near Conwy in North Wales, it's a straightforward walk through mixed trees without the crowds you'd get at the famous spots. The trails are decent enough, well-maintained underfoot, and the canopy gives proper shelter when Welsh weather decides to turn.

What you're actually doing here is walking. There's no visitor centre, no café, no themed anything. Just trees, paths, and occasionally decent views back towards the Conwy valley. On a clear day you can see right across the landscape. In bad weather it's atmospheric in that moody Welsh way.

It works brilliantly if you're camped at Waenfechan Glamping just down the road - five minutes and you're in the forest instead of looking at your tent. Families with younger kids might find an hour here enough; proper hikers could string together a longer route. Autumn is when this place shines - the light through the trees and the smell of wet earth.

The real value is the proximity to Conwy itself. You get a proper forest walk without the drive to somewhere like Snowdonia, then you're back in town for fish and chips. It's not Instagram-worthy and it doesn't pretend to be. If you want woodland without theatrics, this does the job.
