You'll know Rocky Woods by the way the landscape shifts the moment you arrive - all craggy outcrops and steep-sided valleys that feel properly dramatic for Shropshire. The woodland floor is thick with moss and fallen leaves, with weathered sandstone boulders scattered through the trees like something dropped by a careless giant. The nearest proper facilities are in Wrexham, a few miles south, so come prepared. There's no entrance fee that we're aware of, and no set opening hours, which means you can arrive early to beat crowds. Go in autumn or spring for the best light filtering through the canopy.
