Cole Wood sits just outside Tiverton and delivers exactly what you'd want from a Devon forest walk without the crowds. Walkers after a proper stretch will find it satisfying rather than challenging - allow ninety minutes for a decent circuit without rushing. The main appeal is the peace and the straightforward accessibility rather than dramatic views or rare flora.

Go in autumn when the leaf cover turns golden and the woodland floor becomes springy underfoot. Summer visits mean potential midges near the damper sections, so time accordingly. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I could find, so bring what you need.
