Comunity Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a manicured nature reserve, Community Wood sits inland from Cemaes Bay and gives you the feeling of stumbling into something locals have quietly been enjoying for years. It's dense, green, and genuinely feels wild in stretches - the kind of place where you lose track of time among the trees.

The woodland itself is straightforward: footpaths wind through mixed broadleaf forest with enough variety to keep things interesting. You'll find yourself on proper trails one minute, then pushing through scrubland the next. In spring it's carpeted with bluebells. Autumn delivers that satisfying carpet of leaves underfoot. There's no grand vista or dramatic feature waiting at the end - this is about the walk itself, not the destination.

It's ideal for families who want their kids actually moving rather than standing about listening to commentary. Walkers will appreciate the lack of crowds and the genuine sense of exploration. History types won't find much to grab onto here, which is fine - sometimes a wood is just a wood.

Allow an hour or so depending on how lost you fancy getting. There's no entry fee that I'm aware of, and no visitor facilities, so bring what you need. The nearest proper facilities are back in Cemaes Bay itself.

If you're staying at Llain Ffynnon or Pengraig, both just a few miles away, this is a cracking spot for burning off energy on a rainy afternoon or a proper sunny day when the forest canopy keeps things cool.
