Dinas Gynfor

A short but proper scramble up rough ground takes you to the summit of Dinas Gynfor, where you get sudden, sweeping views across the Irish Sea and back towards the Snowdonia peaks. The whole affair takes less than an hour from the car park near Cemaes Bay - perfect if you've got restless kids or you're after a quick leg-stretch that actually delivers views rather than just nice fields.

The peak itself is modest in height but what matters is the exposure. You're genuinely on something, not just walking through moorland. On a clear day you can pick out the Lleyn Peninsula and, if you're lucky, the mountains of Snowdonia to the south. The rocky summit has that satisfying scramble element without being dangerous - children aged eight or so upwards will manage it fine, assuming they're comfortable with hands-on climbing.

Worth timing for afternoon light, especially if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites like Dolydd just two miles away or Mount View a touch further out. The walk itself is free and unregulated - just park and go. Allow ninety minutes if you're not rushed, take water, and wear proper shoes because the ground gets boggy and the rocks can be slippery after rain.

It's the sort of walk that doesn't take all day but gives you that genuine summit feeling. Anglesey isn't known for peaks, so Dinas Gynfor punches above its weight for a quick dose of something approaching proper mountaineering.
