Copper Works Wood

A proper woodland walk just outside Leyland, Copper Works Wood is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan around. The forest floor is thick with fallen leaves and moss, the trees dense enough that even on a bright day it feels like you're walking under a green roof. There's no visitor centre or marked trails - just woodland paths that locals know well.

It's ideal for walkers who want something genuine rather than managed. Children will enjoy it if they're past the "carry me" stage and don't mind muddy boots. You're looking at anything from thirty minutes to two hours depending on how far you wander. The appeal is straightforward: quiet woodland, decent footpaths, and no one trying to sell you a parking pass.

It's close enough not to feel like a proper expedition but far enough removed from the park that you'll feel like you've actually left.
