Copse Wood

A proper woodland walk, Copse Wood delivers the sort of tree-lined ramble that makes you remember why you came to Buckinghamshire in the first place. It's dense enough to feel like proper forest - beech and oak mostly - without being so thick that you lose sight of the path entirely. The undergrowth changes with the seasons, which matters if you're thinking about timing your visit.

This works best for walkers who want something straightforward rather than dramatic. You won't get Instagram views or ancient monuments, just good clean woodland with a few loops that take between 45 minutes and two hours depending on pace. Families with children aged six and up will manage fine; younger kids might find it a bit samey after half an hour.

Watlington sits just down the road, which is handy for supplies or a post-walk meal. If you're staying at Cholsey Grange CL a few miles away, this makes an easy morning out before heading elsewhere - it's the sort of place you visit because it's nearby and the weather's decent, not because you're plotting a weekend around it.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared with water and don't expect a café. Free to access as far as I can tell. The wood's genuinely worth an hour of your time if you're in the area, though it's not the sort of destination that pulls people from across the region.
