Copt Hill

Rolling moorland stretches in every direction from this modest Lancashire peak, with dry stone walls carving up the landscape like a giant's game of noughts and crosses. At 444 metres, Copt Hill won't trouble serious fell walkers, but the views across the Pennines make it well worth the steady climb through heather and rough grass.

Families with older children will find the walk manageable - it's a proper countryside ramble rather than a technical scramble. The path can get boggy after rain, so decent boots are essential. From Keighley, the approach takes you through some lovely farmland before the moorland opens up.

What strikes you most is the sense of space up here. On clear days, you can see across to the Yorkshire Dales, and the industrial heritage of the valleys below feels a world away. It's free walking, naturally, and you could easily spend a couple of hours exploring the wider area once you reach the top.

This fits nicely into a holiday based around the nearby parks like Bronte Country Park or Trawden Forest Glamping. The hill makes a good half-day outing, leaving plenty of time for other activities. Just don't expect crowds - on weekdays, you might well have the summit to yourself.
