Cors-y-Sarnau North Wales Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve

The boardwalk at Cors-y-Sarnau cuts straight through a proper wetland landscape that feels genuinely wild - reedbeds stretching to the horizon, water gleaming between the vegetation, birds you'd never spot from a car. It's a North Wales Wildlife Trust reserve near Bala, and the whole point is to let you get close to nature without tramping through bog and destroying the habitat.

You're looking at a managed wetland system here - the kind of place that draws serious birdwatchers in spring and autumn migration season, though honestly the light and atmosphere are best in early morning. Bring binoculars if you've got them; expect to see reed warblers, water voles if you're lucky, and in winter the occasional hen harrier drifting overhead. The boardwalk means families with young kids won't struggle with muddy paths, though it does limit how much exploring you can actually do.

Allow a couple of hours maximum - it's not vast, and once you've worked the boardwalk you've seen what there is to see.
