Craiglea Hill

The walk up Craiglea Hill from Blairgowrie takes you through proper Perthshire terrain - moorland that shifts colour with the seasons, heather giving way to bracken, occasional stands of conifers. It's not a long push, more of a pleasant afternoon outing than a serious hill walk, and the summit rewards you with views across the Carse of Gowrie to the south and into the Highlands proper to the north. On a clear day you can pick out the bigger peaks in the distance, though I'll admit the hill itself is modest enough that it won't stop you in your tracks.

This suits families after a proper walk without the commitment, and anyone based at Nethercraig Holiday Park or Five Roads Caravan Park nearby will find it an easy escape into the hills. The ground can be boggy in patches - wear decent boots - and allow a couple of hours for a steady ascent and descent with time to stand about at the top taking it in.

What you get most from Craiglea is the sense of being somewhere real, away from the Blairgowrie attractions that pull in coach parties. It's free, accessible most of the year, and works well as part of a broader Perthshire loop that takes in Glenshee Glamping's territory further west. Don't expect dramatic views or any facilities - bring water, check the weather forecast, and go for the walk itself rather than expecting Instagram moments.
