Creek Beach North

The walk down to Creek Beach North feels longer than it is, winding through scrubland that opens suddenly onto a proper stretch of Lancashire coast. This isn't the manicured seaside you get further south - it's more industrial, more honest. Grey-brown water, a scattering of rocks, and usually fewer people than you'd expect even in summer. The creek itself is the draw, shallow and muddy at low tide, which appeals to kids hunting for crabs and the sort of adults who still do that sort of thing.

Walkers will find the approach pleasantly rough. Allow thirty minutes from the nearest car park, depending on which way you come in - paths aren't exactly signposted, which keeps the casual tourist away. That's partly the charm. You won't find cafes or deck chairs here. What you get is quiet, space, and the chance to actually hear yourself think without someone's portable speaker ruining it.

It works as a half-day excursion from Burrs Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just a couple of miles back towards Bury. Combine it with a proper walk along the wider coastline and you've got a decent afternoon. Spring and early autumn are best - summer brings crowds and sticky weather, winter can be bleak even by Lancashire standards. The beach itself is free to access, though you'll need to sort your own parking somewhere nearby. Realistic time on the beach: two hours maximum unless you're just sitting watching the water.
