It's accessible from Stocksfield, which makes it handy if you're based nearby, and the woodland paths wind through dense trees with enough variation to keep a decent walk interesting without being exhausting.

This is walkers' territory. The forest offers genuine peace rather than Instagram moments, which some will love and others might find a bit dull if they're after dramatic views. Kids will manage an hour or so before the novelty of "just trees" wears thin, though adventurous types enjoy picking their way through the undergrowth.
